You can now rent your Adobe Suite

I tend not to like subscriptions. I like to buy my products and own them. Well, Adobe announced a subscription based model with the announcement of CS5.5. You can still outright buy the software. Although, if you don’t want to fork out the cash all at once, they have two subscription models. There is an annual with month-to-month payments and a no contract month-to-month plan. The advantage of the annual month-to-month is that your monthly fees are less, but you are locked into a year commitment.

I Love Your Company, so I HATE Your New Logo

in

A recent study at Rice University by Professor of Marketing Vikas Mittal suggested that the more loyal a consumer is to a brand, the more resentment they will feel to a logo change or redesign. Consumers that are highly committed to a brand tend to see the logo as a visual link that connects them to the brand. Any change in the link to the brand is seen as a violation to the psychological contract between the consumer and the brand. It doesn't matter how good the design of the new logo is, if there is a strong connection there will be a negative reaction.

Startup Weekend

A lot of graphic designers are freelance or entrepreneurs. Much of the time we work on the visual look of a new product, business or event. If you have that desire to start with a company or product from scratch you should look into Startup Weekend. This is my first year participating and I just recently heard about it. This year it is over the weekend of November 12-14 at Purdue Research Park in Indianapolis. This is an event that is held all over the world as well.

Can Adobe, Apple and Google Be Friends

I recently read an article on cnet.com titled, “Adobe moves further into Google’s orbit”. The article comments on Adobe’s mobile strategy and how it is tied to the long term success of Android. Adobe had tried originally to partner with Apple as far back as 2008 on the iphone. With the recent Steve Jobs bashing of Adobe Flash, there is now a certain amount of bad blood between Adobe and Apple. With the Android platform quickly rising to compete with the iphone, Google has become real competitor for Apple. Adobe technologies are now being optimized for Android phones and eventually Google TV.

Getting your name for all Social Media

Do you have the same name on all you social media outlets? This can be easier if you are using your own name and it is not to common a name. Sometimes it is harder if you are using your company name. You would like for everything to be the same across Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIN? Are you are trying to maintain brand consistency, but it is hard to know who has taken what user names already? Check out a site called www.namechk.com. It allows you to search for an username across all social media sites. It tells you which sites the name is available for and which sites the name has been taken.

Cloud storage

Sites for cloud storge.

I have started using ZumoDrive and it seems like a pretty good solution. You can get up to 2 GB of free storage. You can access it through the web or have it show up as a drive on your system.
