Business Email: Are Your Email Campaigns Losing Their Punch?
This tends to happen to even the most successful email marketers when they get in a pattern of hitting subscribers with the same types of messages over and over. Your emails start ending up in the trash, or worse the Spam box more and more often even if your are offering substantial discounts or discounts on shipping.
For example, if your customer receives email from you within a span of a few days with topics like:
OUTSTANDING – Free Shipping on all Widgets –Blowout!
Blowout Shipping on ALL WIDGETS is Free if You act NOW – NOW - NOW
50% Off All Widgets for our Blowout Sale – Ends Tomorrow
50% Off All Widgets for our Blowout Sale – ENDS TODAY!!!
Sending the same offer over and over and over desensitizes your customers to your headlines and devalues the offer itself. Bolding or capitalizing every word is overdoing it too. Soon, your customers will think that your “blowout” sale isn’t that awesome or special after all. In fact, you may have blasted them to the point that they see no urgency in acting “now”.
While you top customers might want to receive offers of this type often, other casual customers or potential customers may become perturbed at the load of email they’re receiving from you.
Frequency is the answer. Reduce the frequency and work on the content of your email. Remember, you are creating a need in the customer so they will act soon. Begin and keep a continuous “conversation” with them about your products, but don’t annoy them.
You’ll soon begin to see the dividends of loyal returning customers in your future.
P.S. You can fall into the same hole if you are constantly droning on and on with your other marketing efforts too like newsletters, feeds, and even print. So, think about it before you launch the marketing blitzkrieg.
Peace,
Loren
