WordPress and Themes

 For those new to WordPress, one of the changes is to find a great look for your site.  WordPress themes are files that work together to create the design and functionality of a WordPress site. WordPress handles all of the actual content of your website, a WordPress theme is the actual design that visitors view when they come to your website.

If you are an experienced WordPress designer or developer, you can attempt to create your own theme.  However, this will require skills in various areas.  For example, you will probably create your layout using Photoshop, Illustrator, or something similar.  Once you get your layout, you'll need to get it into WordPress.

Once you get it into WordPress, you will need to put on your WordPress developer's hat to get it to work.  If you don't want to go to all of this effort, you can find themes online for free, or by purchase.

Even if you find a theme you like online, chances are you will have to modify it in some way, either for the graphic look, in PHP, or WordPress.  Many times this is a major hassle.  This is where My Site My Way comes in.

My Site My Way (MSMW) produces extremely well designed themes. These themes are very esthetically pleasing! Now, as I mentioned before you can get themes somewhere else. However, I have not seen ANY publisher that not only provides such beautiful themes AND provides so many options. Let me explain.   

For example, I am very fond of the Persuasion theme.

Persuasion, like all of the MSMW themes comes with many options. Not only do you get the theme files you would expect for a WordPress theme, but you also can download the Photoshop source files as well.

The theme even enables you to choose from over 10 different color variations (Skins) to suit your fancy!  Most WordPress themes, whether professionally done or not, do not come with this level of detail included in the design. This is one of the features that definitely sets My Site My Way apart from all of the other theme publishers.  However, it doesn't end there!

Customized Dashboard

After you install a MSMW theme (which is very easy!), you have a customized dashboard to configure all of the built in features. Note the highlighted tabs, to these features.

 Each option on the MSMW dashboard is labelled and help is provided by a question mark icon to the right of the field.  This enables you to select the custom configuration settings for your site quickly and easily.

Easy to Use Shortcodes

As you create your content for your WordPress site, MSMW includes their own specialized short codes.  A shortcode is a WordPress-specific code that lets you do cool  things with very little effort. Shortcodes can embed files or create objects that would normally require lots of complicated code in just one line. Shortcode = shortcut.

Now, some theme publishers provide shortcodes when you download their themes. The shortcodes provided with the MSMW themes enable you to do lots of things like creating columns, drop caps, and so on.  Another example of the MSMW attention to detail is they even provide a built in Shortcode Generator.  Using the generator, you select the shortcode from a dropdown list and the shortcode is placed in your post or page for you!

Pricing

At the time of this review, you can purchase a single theme for as little as $35 (USD). There are other websites, where I've seen themes cost $65-$120 (or more). If you want to start a longer term relationship with MSMW, they offer a convienent monthly membership as well for a $79 startup fee and then just $.  I would recommend the monthly membership for the value, especially if you are a WordPress designer/developer.

Summary

If you need a theme for your personal site or commercial site, I would highly recommend MSMW for all of the reasons that I previously stated.  If you develop WordPress sites for your own customers, building on the MSMW framework to develop your site is a no-brainer.

There just is simply no WordPress theme publisher on the internet, which I have found, that has the combination of quality theme designs, helpful built in features, and extensive documentation/support as MSMW; no matter the price range.
